Dual Eligibility

Some individuals qualify for both Medicare and Medicaid, often called “dual eligible.”

  • Medicare pays first; Medicaid may cover premiums, copays, and additional services that Medicare doesn’t.

  • This is especially important for seniors in assisted living or with chronic conditions.

What’s New in 2025

As 2025 brings big policy changes, it's more important than ever to understand the difference:

  • Medicare is a federal program for adults 65+ and people with certain disabilities—now with capped out-of-pocket drug costs and upcoming physician payment changes.

  • Medicaid is a state-managed program for low-income individuals—recent updates include work requirements, co-pays, and eligibility redetermination.

Stay informed. These changes may affect your access to care or services.
